Read receipts feature now become part of all popular messaging apps. Even an average instant messaging app will tell you when your message was delivered and when the user checked it. Following the trend, Skype also introduced Read Receipts feature which they forget to include. The users were waiting for this feature for a long time, and finally, they getting it. A few months ago, the Skype team at Microsoft introduced an encrypted conversation. On the considerable demand of fans, the company added a new read receipt feature in the Skype preview build too. According to Microsoft Answers moderator Karah, the Read receipts feature on Skype helps in tracking who has seen your messages. When your friend read the messages, their avatar will appear underneath in the Skype chat. Currently, the Read Receipts feature is available for Android, iOS, and MacOS. Fortunately, the Windows 10 users have to wait until the company releases the ‘Windows 10 October 2018’ update.
Enable and Disable Skype Read Receipts Feature
With default settings, this feature is enabled. In case, you’re not comfortable with sending read receipts messages; then you can also turn it off. Here is what you need to do:
- Launch Skype app in Windows 10.
- Click on the Profile Picture available on the upper left corner. Here scroll down and click on Settings it.
Alternatively, you can also click on the More (…) icon available on the upper left side and select Settings. 3. Under Settings, you need to switch to Messaging tab. On the right panel, you need to move the Slider for ‘Send read receipts‘ to OFF position.
That’s it! Just like other messaging apps if you disable read receipts on Skype, then you won’t be able to find out if someone (to whom you have sent the message) has read or checked it or not. Skype already inform users about:
If the message is sent If the message is delivered or not When the particular person was last active Is the persona currently online If someone is typing a message
By the experiments conducted by me, I concluded that the new read receipts feature depends on the what version of the Skype app other person is using. If the person is using the version that does not support read receipts feature, then you will not get read receipts from that person. Ofcourse, that person will also experience the same thing. As discussed above, the Read receipts feature is available for users running Mac OS, Android, and iOS on their device. Users running Windows 10 on their machine has to wait until the next major update (due for fall 2018) hit your computer to enjoy the functionality. In case, you’re using an operating system other than Windows and still not seeing the read receipts option, then make sure you’re running the latest version of Skype.
