So, this time for #AppyWeek, I thought of revisiting a trusted app, myHomework Student Planner. And see how it fairs in today’s scenario. Is it still a smart solution, or do students nowadays need something more? Let’s check out.
myHomework review: A cross-platform organizational software for students
myHomework is a simple-to-use, bare-boned task management app designed specifically for students. It helps them track their classes and homework. Consider this as a special edition ‘Todoist’ or ‘Any.do’ for kids. Launched in 2009, myHomework has served a broad audience and earned many accolades since then. But what piqued my interest is a simple question – is this app still relevant in 2021? Does it have what it takes to handle the pressures of new-age, ever-changing study patterns? And as I used, explored, and tested the app through the week, here’s what I found.
myHomework features you should look forward too
What is that one thing you need from a perfect to-do app? It should understand you, your schedule, things you may or may not need, and perhaps boast customizable options. Well, myHomework understands the sentiments and incorporates almost everything a middle school, high school, or college student may need.
Simple, minimal UI
The no-nonsense, well-organized interface is easy to use even for a young user. You can customize the looks by switching to a preferred theme, though the free version has limited options. However, considering the aptitude of 2021 students, I do feel that the UI needs a pump-up.
Assistance with Classes
For me, this is the timetable section. Add in all your subjects, timing for each class, and myHomework will help you track them all. Not just that! You can also add the teacher’s name, room no., building, etc., to the class info. Plus, to make things easier, you can add a schedule according to school block, time, period, or other custom timing. And whether your class happens at the same time each week or alternative weeks, myHomework has options to accommodate all that and more.
Track your Homework
Whether there is a submission tomorrow or next month, you can organize everything via the myHomework app. Just create the task, add a due date, time, priority, and even set when to receive a reminder. On the main page, you can also segregate tasks according to class, priority, and type. And here’s the masterstroke, you can not only manage homework but also test, study, and exam schedules, papers, presentations, and more.
Cross-Platform compatibility
myHomework is available on all leading platforms –
iOSiPadOSwatchOSmacOSAndroidWindows Chrome web store andKindle
The great thing is that if you have signed in, you get live sync across all devices. So, you can check your homework/class status anywhere, anytime.
Teachers.io support
As the name suggests, this is a companion app designed for teachers. It integrates advanced tools for reporting and monitoring. When a teacher uses Teachers.io, a student using the myHomework app can quickly join classes and access assignments, files, syllabus, and other information.
Is myHomework great for online classes?
myHomework has certainly evolved with time, from Facebook/Google sign-in to Apple Watch support. Plus, the wide variety of class/homework tracking options can successfully accommodate digital classes, tests, workshops, and more. However, there are still some features missing. For instance, there is no companion app for parents to keep an eye on the student’s progress. You still have to manually add each class and homework (if the school is not using Teachers.io). Collaboration with other apps like Google Classroom, Zoom, etc., is undoubtedly a miss. And while it boasted a fine Today Widget, the Home Screen widget support is still pending.
Is AK Appy with myHomework?
In totality, yes, I am pretty impressed and happy with the app. It molds nicely into online classes and the study-from-home culture. Moreover, the app can handle most study plans or class-related needs efficiently. However, I can’t overlook that it is in desperate need of a good, feature-packed update. If the developers could pull up their socks and bring some changes to accommodate modern-day students, this one can become an unbeatable student planner app.
